A Photographer Assistant, sometimes known as a runner, is passionate about photography and interested in working with a professional photographer. The Photographer Assistant supports the studio lead photographer by taking on many of the day-to-day jobs that come up all the time in a busy studio. This could be providing admin support, greeting the talent and crew, printing timesheets or rate cards, answering the phone, ordering taxis, or making sure there is enough tea and coffee and ordering the lunch for meetings.
The ideal candidate will have some experience in photography, known for being flexible, adaptable, very stylish, versatile, efficient, hard-working, be detail oriented, have a positive attitude, good at taking directions and capable of taking control.
A photographer assistant is someone who assists a photographer during a photo shoot, duties include setting up props, coordinating a shoot, operating lighting equipment, and directing other crew members. They may also help pose the model, direct the model, and photograph the model.
Photographer Assistant Duties:
- Oversee and assist senior photographer with major assignments and photo shoots
- Assure that all equipment is in good working order, that equipment is loaded and ready, and that all settings are correct
- Assist with setting up and breaking down equipment
- Ensure that all equipment is returned properly at the end of the day
- Clearly communicate instructions to photographers and photo assistants
- Be aware of and comply with all legal requirements, company policies, and office procedures
Photographer Assistant Responsibilities:
- Assist photographers with various photo assignments, including studio, location, product, and landscape photography
- Edit, retouch, and compile images using computer imaging software
- Upload digital photos to media sites, such as Flickr, Facebook, and Dropbox
- Verify and categorize images by camera model, lens type, and shutter speed
- Edit images and prepare them for website display
- Conduct photo briefs with assistance from photographers
- May be responsible for photo development, including developing film and printing photographs
- File expense reports, submit invoices, and calculate charges
- Operationally drive equipment and handle film
- Use equipment to calibrate exposure
- Print and mount photos
- Color correct images as necessary
- Develop photocopies, negatives, and transparencies
- Identify, process, and assemble
Requirements And Skills:
- Proven experience assisting photographers under general direction
- Enthusiastic, creative, and detail-oriented
- Knowledge of photography terminology, equipment, and techniques
- Strong work ethic
- Excellent communication, multi-tasking, and organization skills
