Rakuten Fashion Week 2024 Spring/Summer was held for six days from Monday, August 28 to Saturday, September 2. According to information announced by the Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO), 50 brands will participate in this season and each brand will present its latest collection either in physical or digital format.
The pandemic had been declared over in the previous season, and more brands restarted to hold fashion shows in real life. In light of this tendency, JFWO has announced that it will adopt the major theme of “OPEN, FASHION WEEK” throughout the year 2024. Based on the new format of “fusing of digital and physical” and “strengthening of power to transmit globally,” JFWO will aim to present an event with an even further sense of openness, along with continuing to develop a variety of contents, further strengthening national and international transmission of information on the event.
Along with this commitment, we can also see the active participation of international brands this season.
A total of seven international brands will be showcasing their collections: Philippine brands “BENCH” and “PH MODE x TYO by MFF”, Canadian organization “Global Fashion Collective”, which supports international emerging designers to expand their business overseas, Taiwanese brands “IRENSENSE” and “Seivson”, Hong Kong brand ( Wilsonkaki), and Indonesian brand (X)S.M.L).
In addition, the following 10 Japanese brands will participate for the first time and hold physical shows.

Among them, KANAKO SAKAI is the award-winner designer of the “JFW NEXT BRAND AWARD 2024,” established by JFWO to nurture and support the talents of designers who can spread their wings globally. The brand will hold a runway show at Shibuya Hikarie Hall A on the first day of Fashion Week. Fluss was also selected for the Jury’s Special Prize in the same award, and the brand will exhibit its collection at CUBE on the 8th floor of Shibuya Hikarie from August 28 to August 30.
In addition, an AI-based media art exhibition will be held from August 14 to 18, where this season’s key visuals will be expressed in full 3DCG. The venue is WALL&WALL, and admission is free. Doors open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
As an open-to-public event, a pre-opening party will also be held on August 25 (Friday) at the WALL&WALL venue from 6 pm to 9 pm. Admission is 2,000 Japanese yen (including two drink tickets). The next generation of DJs who are exploding their individuality in the club scene will appear and will liven up the party.
