Recently I have worked out an lighting endorsement deal and got my hands on some new studio strobes, the VISICO5 TTL lights, that are lightweight, battery powered and able to sync at high speed (1/8000 sec). So I took the time to search for girls to help me with testing these lights in various conditions and settings… primarily on location around Shibuya and hopefully with bright sunny days to push these lights to their limits.
But as they say when you are given lemons, make lemonade… that about sums up the weather we have had. Overcast days with slightly heavy breezes have left me to take images that still use the strobes high speed sync to shoot at f1.8-f2.8 to give the images the creamy soft background while keeping the model in focus and lighting her up with a nice balanced light that also keeps the background darker and dull… thus making the models pop out in the images.
Was able to squeeze in 3 photoshoots in the 5 days before I took the rest if the time off to catch up on some personal things. This shoot was indoors and more of a hands on testing of how the lights work, which gave the model some of her own personal/private images in exchange.
The first real shooting was focused on outdoors and hoping that the sunshine would stick around for a while, but the winds quickly took control and finally the sun dipped off behind the blanket of clouds that filled the skies by mid-afternoon. But we were still able to get some good quality testing in as well as pulled some images that we were both satisfied with. The next shoot was again focused on shooting outdoors. So we started shooting off the main streets in Shibuya where there was not so much foot traffic to allow us to work more on getting shots while trying various settings. As we moved to another spot the skies were ready to drop on us as we quickly set up in an alley just around the corner from Shibuya 109 and snapped a few quick shots, then moved over to the scramble crossing to shoot some of the cliche shots that pretty much every one has shot in Shibuya.
